Jambalaya Restaurant (Pheasant Run)
The Taffetas, a charming 50's musical revue, has been playing at the Pheasant Run Mainstage Theatre since the beginning of February. Naturally, Mrs. Voice and I decided to attend on the last day of the show's run this past Saturday. I know that doesn't help you now, but here is something that will:
After the show we decided to investigate the fairly new Jambalaya Restaurant, also located within the Pheasant Run complex. The space used to be a sports bar but was redesigned as a French Quarter themed restaurant a little over a year ago. Using plenty of wrought iron and the traditional palette of Mardi Gras colors and decorations, the new space is a welcome addition of Cajun cuisine in the area.
We chose to sit at the bar and order the Shrimp Rockefeller appetizer (popcorn shrimp over spinach bread drizzled with Mornay sauce). Very yummy indeed. Not only that, but our bartender was very friendly and attentive, so much so that he felt comfortable sharing his recipe for homemade honey lemon vodka with us. "Next time you are sick, forget medicine. Take five shots of that and you will be perfect when you wake up."
The menu also offers several other Cajun favorites like gumbo, po' boy samiches, crab cakes, and of course the restaurant's namesake dish. We'll have to return soon to try these.
Jambalaya offers entertainment as well. Thursday evenings are set aside for the Karaoke Dance Party, and you can enjoy live music on Friday and Saturday nights. Check our Event Calendar each week for details.
Stop in for some spicy dishes and perhaps a recipe for homemade spirits. And tell 'em you heard it from The Voice!
