Steel Beam Theatre 2009-2010 Season

Just updated the Event Calendar with the upcoming Mainstage productions at the Steel Beam Theatre in St. Charles. Here's the lowdown:

Working
Sept. 11 - Oct. 18, 2009

A musical adaptation of the great Studs Terkel's highly acclaimed book of the same name, exploring the extraordinary in the "ordinary" lives of working Americans.

Working is adapted by Stephen Schwartz and Nina Faso.

A Christmas Carol
Nov. 20 - Dec. 20, 2009

There are many adaptations of A Christmas Carol out there, but there's only one Broadway version!

The whole family will enjoy this musical version of Charles Dickens' classic story of Scrooge and Tiny Tim, originally presented by Radio City Entertainment at Madison Square Garden.

With a book by Mike Ockrent and Lynn Ahrens, with music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens, the stunning score tugs at the heartstrings and is sure to put everyone into a holiday mood!

Rabbit Hole
Jan. 8 - Feb. 7, 2010

Winner of the Pulitzer for Drama in 2007, David Lindsay-Abaire's poignant play is a graceful and reverent look at a family's loss and their journey back from grief to a hopeful future.

The New York Times hails the play as "an anatomy of grief [that] doesn't so much jerk tears as tap them, from a reservoir of feelings common to anyone who has experienced the landscape-shifting vacuum left by a death in the family."

It Could Be Any One of Us
Feb 26 - March 28 , 2010

The Guardian of London hails Alan Ayckbourn's 30th play as "a gently mischievous delight [whose] title is one of those lines to cherish from every country house thriller you've ever seen."

This "fond parody" of the genre has a bright heart and "is a chuckling demonstration of the joy that comes from assured, masterly skill."

And here's the twist: The audience chooses the murderer and the play's final scene.

Blithe Spirit
April 9 - May 9 , 2010

This delightful play has been called "a master class in comedy" by The New Yorker, and "a highly efficient laugh machine sheathed in satiny sophistication" by The New York Times.

High praise indeed for a "ghost story." But then this smash hit was penned by Noel Coward, and is an out-of-the-ordinary out-of-body experience.

Dixie Swim Club
May 21 - June 27, 2010

Think Steel Magnolias and then add water.

Swim teammates from the old college days reunite every year in a beachfront condo to catch up, reminisce and celebrate the kind of friendships that last forever.

Dixie Swim Club is written by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten.
